Day 134 - 14th May 2010

Friday night again, so as usual we went to what is becoming my local pub,the Immigrant, to let off a little steam. The atmosphere in the place was lovely and it was a chance to have a drink with some people I haven't had a chance to talk to for a while . The picture for the day is from the toilet. Every week there seem to be more and more anecdotes and poems scribbled on the walls. This poem (if that's what it is) appealed as the thought of soaring high above the world without a care in the world would be a dream.

    Nikki, not sure if High Flight is in the British curriculum, but here is a much more transcendent version of similar sentiments:

    High Flight - John Gillespie Magee, Jr.

    Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
    And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
    Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
    of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
    You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
    High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there,
    I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
    My eager craft through footless halls of air....
    Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
    I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
    Where never lark nor even eagle flew—
    And, while with silent lifting mind I’ve trod
    The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
    Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
